- Abstract : Effective pain management in the perioperative period is important morally for the welfare of the animal, and also because it is likely to improve clinical outcomes. Pain is an emotional experience with multiple underlying physiological components and factors beyond traditional concepts of analgesia affect its severity. This article considers the techniques available to provide perioperative analgesia and how to best deploy them.
