- Highlights: Wood fiber produced with pine waste was used to reinforced AAC. Detailed comparison between WFAC and performances of PFAC was conducted. The effect of fiber content in the production was tested. Wood fiber had a positive impact on the mechanical strengths of AAC, but slightly increased the thermal conductivity. Abstract: Using fiber produced with wood waste into AAC could reduce the negative impacts on environment and improve the mechanical property of AAC. To obtain a better understanding of wood fiber produced by pine waste used in autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC), a comparative study between performances of wood fiber reinforced AAC (WFAC) and performances of polyester fiber reinforced AAC (PFAC) was conducted. Fluidity of slurry and swollen height of forming mixture were measured during preparation. The influences of fiber content on the physical properties and mechanical properties of products were systematically investigated, together with the SEM investigation. In the most case, the effect of adding wood fiber into AAC was better than that of polyester fiber. Along with the increase of wood fiber content, the fluidity, swollen height and porosity decreased, while the volume density and thermal conductivity slightly increased. The mechanical property was significantly enhanced by wood fiber, particularly the flexural strength. Moreover, SEM results revealed the reinforcing mechanism of wood fiber was a physical interaction.
