- Abstract: The effective elastic properties of a short glass fiber reinforced thermoplastic are estimated using different mean field homogenization schemes. The material's inherently complex microstructure is resolved by means of high resolution x‐ray tomography scans and utilizing a single fiber segmentation algorithm. This raw microstructural data is then directly considered in the models. Finally, the models are discussed and their estimates for the anisotropic effective stiffness tensor are compared to experimentally obtained direction‐dependent Young's moduli.
