Abstract

Abstract : Rounded rectangular coils are more common in wireless power applications. It is important in practical engineering to calculate the self‐ and mutual inductances of rounded rectangular coils. A new model of the self‐ and mutual inductances of rounded rectangular coils with rectangular cross‐sections is derived in this study. The proposed formulae are applicable not only to the rounded rectangular coils, but also to the extreme cases such as circular, rectangular, and race‐track coils. The coil layouts including coaxial alignment and lateral misalignments are also discussed. Comparison of calculated self‐ and mutual inductances with experimental observations is provided and an excellent agreement between the two proves the feasibility of the proposed formulae.
