Abstract

Abstract : Flexible AC transmission system series compensation, such as series switched capacitors including gate‐controlled series capacitor (GCSC) plays an important role to enhance grid system transfer power, stability, power quality and loss reduction. GCSC devices are implemented using fixed or switched capacitor in parallel with a pair of anti‐parallel gate‐commuted switches. They are connected in series of transmission and distribution lines and are commonly used to control the power flow on congested transmission lines. This study presents a review of GCSC devices and future perspectives.
