- ABSTRACT: Present study was conducted to evaluate the rhythm of hepatological health in indigenous chicks on exposure of ethion following two fortnight intervals. In present study 24 birds were divided randomly and equally into four groups (n = 6) i.e. group I, II, III and IV. Group I served as control, group II, III and IV were administered with ethion at 2.5, 5.0 and 7.5 mg/kg body weight, respectively, by oral route of administration for a period of two fortnight intervals. After the end of the experiment period birds were sacrificed humanely and liver and blood samples were collected for oxidative stress parameters, histopathology, scanning electron microscopic examination and serum hepatic enzyme marker evaluation respectively. Significant ( P < 0.05) increase in Aspartate aminotransferase, Alanine aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase was observed in group II, III and IV in a dose dependent manner as compared to control group I. A significant increase in lipid peroxidase value (LPO) and reduction in reduced glutathione (GSH) was noticed in ethion-treated groups in dose dependent manner as compared to control group I. There was significant alteration in superoxide dismutase (SOD) and catalase activity in intoxicated groups in relation to control group I. Reactive oxygen species generation was evaluated by flow cytometry revealed significant increment in ROS in group II, III and IV as compared to group I. Scanning electron microscopic studies revealed the hepatotoxicity as the intoxicated groups having attached blood cells over normal topographic surface in relation to normalcy in architecture in control group I. It is concluded from the study that ethion produced altered hepatic rhythm in dose dependent hepatotoxicity in birds by elucidating altered antioxidative parameters pertaining to oxidative stress implication along with microscopic and histopathological alteration advocated the adverse effect in hepatic tissues following fortnightly exposure in similar manner. … (more)
