Abstract

Abstract : A six‐year‐old mongrel dog presented with modified voice, stridor, cough, difficulty swallowing and exercise intolerance while hunting since the last six weeks. The primary consideration was laryngeal paralysis and an endoscopic examination was performed. A 3 cm mass was found on the right arytaenoid cartilage rostral to the vocal cord. Biopsy of the mass revealed a tumour originating from striated muscles. After tumour staging with CT, the mass was removed by a ventral approach to the larynx. Histopathological analysis was compatible with a spindle cell sarcoma and rhabdomyosarcoma was confirmed by immunohistochemistry. No palliative chemotherapy was introduced. The dog was still alive 18 months after surgery.
