- Abstract : An asynchronous Adaptive priority roundrobin arbiter (APRA) based on four‐phasedual‐rail protocol is proposed. Combining the advantages of synchronous andasynchronous circuits, it provides the required bandwidth allocation on basis ofarbitration fairness and works in synchronous SoC. In the Nonidling andnonpreemptive (NINP) model, simulations and verifications are made. The resultsshow that the speed of the proposed arbiter is improved by 18%–50.4% and thedynamic and static power is reduced by 8.4%–46.2% and 81.8%–90.9% respectivelycompared with the commonly‐used Fixed priority (FP), Round‐Robin (RR) andLottery arbiters. The proposed arbiter is better in output bandwidth allocationand it also has advantages in speed and power. Furthermore, it is easy inreconfiguration, strong in practicability and low in complexity of systemintegration and suits various extreme communication traffics.
