Abstract

The objective of this study is to capture and analyse the relationship between the pressures that influence the adoption process of GSCM practices in small and medium enterprises from the chemical sector. Data from 26 companies from four different countries were analysed through qualitative comparative analysis to examine the relationship between the pressures towards increasing the rate of adoption of GSCM practices. Empirical results have indicated pressures from regulations, or suppliers, or internal forces (interestingly, mission without market pressures) leads to the adoption of GSCM practices. Surprisingly, pressures from the community have not been identified as a relevant factor influencing the adoption process. Thus, this paper contributes to highlights the complexity of the set of relationships between the pressures driving the adoption of green practices and to the literature by providing a novel way of understanding the process of adoption of these practices by SMEs.
