Abstract

Abstract: The paper describes an equivalent source model of acoustic sources from optical measurements using refracto-vibrometry. The acousto-optic effect is used to characterize the acoustic source in a non-invasive manner. The equivalent source model is constructed with a volumic distribution of monopole sources: its radiation should produce an acouto-optic effect which match with the measured one. The solution of this inverse problem gives the monopole strengths. This method is applied to the characterization of an acoustic pulse source. It is shown that the reconstructed pressure with the equivalent source matches the measured one within a 2 dB range. Moreover, the equivalent source dimensions, spatial location and directivity are in good accordance with expected characteristics of the real source.
