- Abstract: A novel one-dimensional boron nitride (BN) microtube hierarchical structure was prepared by the chemical vapour deposition method. XRD, SEM, FTIR, Raman, TEM and HR-TEM were used to characterise BN. The samples demonstrated an average inner diameter of 0.6 μm and a tube length of 5-60 μm. Its surface was loaded with a large number of BN nanosheets. The specific surface area of the BN hierarchical structure reached 130.8 m 2 g −1, and the structure exhibited good adsorption property for congo red (CR), methylene blue (MB), and copper ions (Cu 2+ ) with maximum uptake capacities of 328.95, 272.48 and 171.23 mg g −1, respectively. The adsorption of these adsorbates onto the BN microtube was well-fitted with the Langmuir model. Moreover, the samples could be recycled by burning or heating in air. Comparative experimental results indicated that the growth mechanism of BN microtubes followed the vapour-liquid-solid model, whereas the growth mechanism of the surface-loaded ultra-thin BN sheets followed the vapour-solid model.
