- Abstract: Sterically hindered alkanolamines with different numbers of hydroxyl groups were investigated for the CO2 capture activities. The absorption were performed at 313 K and atmospheric pressure using 15% CO2 whereas the desorption were performed at 363 K and atmospheric pressure. Sterically hindered amine with higher number of hydroxyl groups showed lower performance for all CO2 capture activities. Amine with one hydroxyl group exhibited the best efficiency with CO2 solubility of 0.73 molCO2 /mol amine, initial absorption rate of 1.32 × 10 -2 molCO2 /L-soln.min, initial desorption rate of 5.81 × 10 -2 molCO2 /L-soln.min, heat of absorption of -49.99 kJ/mol, and heat duty of 3.25 kJ/mol.
