- Abstract: In this work, thermally conductive geopolymer (GP) nanocomposites were developed by incorporating silica-coated multi-walled carbon nanotubes (SiO2 -CNT) into GP matrix. The SiO2 layer not only improved the dispersion of CNT, but also alleviated the modulus mismatch between CNT and GP. As a result, the thermal conductivity of GP nanocomposites containing 5 vol% of SiO2 -CNT increased by 71.7% compared with neat GP. The enhancement proved the feasibility of making GP nanocomposites for use in areas where thermal conductivity was desired. Highlights: Thermally conductive geopolymer nanocomposites were developed via interface engineering. The thermal conductivity was improved by incorporating SiO2 -coated CNT into geopolymer matrix. The SiO2 coating created an effective thermal conduction path and reduced the interfacial thermal resistance.
