- Abstract: In the present study, kenaf fibers were treated with sodium acetate at varying chemical concentrations (10%, 15% and 20%) for different treatment time. The investigation was carried out to study the effect of chemical treatment on chemical and thermal properties of kenaf fiber and its composites. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy was performed to detect the removal of non-cellulosic content from kenaf fiber after chemical treatment. Glass transition temperature and specific heat capacity of treated and untreated fibers reinforced composites can be obtained by differential scanning calorimeter. The crystallinity and average crystallinity size of the developed composites were evaluated by XRD. The exhibited results show that the effect on physical and chemical properties were due to the removal of non-cellulosic content from fiber after chemical treatment.
