- Abstract: A 2D novel non-local lattice bond model (NLBM) is proposed to study the initiation, propagation and coalescence of cracks in rock materials. In the proposed NLBM, multiple neighboring lattices are utilized to solve the crack path preference problems. Furthermore, both the normal bonds and the tangent bonds are considered to overcome the limitation of the fixed Poisson's ratio in the classical lattice model. The stiffness parameters are determined by comparing the strain energy stored in a discrete unit lattice with the classical continuum strain energy. Both the elastic problems and the crack path preference problems are simulated by using the proposed method. Compared with the existing numerical methods and experimental results, the performance of the proposed NLBM is satisfactory for predicting the fracturing behaviors in rock materials and for overcoming the limitation of the fixed Poisson's ratio in the classical lattice model.
