Abstract

Graphical abstract: Highlights: Three new metabolites were isolated from the sponge Luffariella variabilis . The absolute configurations were determined by ECD calculations and DP4+ analysis. Compound 1 possessed a rare 13(14 → 8)- abeo -8-ergostane skeleton. Compound 1 demonstrated moderate cytotoxicity against MDA-MB-231 and K562. Abstract: Three new compounds, including one steroid, 22, 23-dihydro-24-nordankasterone A (1 ), one dolabellane diterpene, 6, 10, 18-triacetoxy-2 E, 7 E -dolabelladien (2 ), and one heptadecylphenol derivative, 1-methyloxy-3-hrdroxy-4-methyl-5-heptadecylphenol (3 ), were isolated from the South China Sea sponge Luffariella variabilis . The planar structures were resolved by NMR and MS analyses, while the absolute configurations were fully elucidated by NOESY experiments, experimental and calculated ECD spectra, and DP4+ probability analysis. Compound 1 demonstrated moderate cytotoxicity against MDA-MB-231 and K562 cell lines with IC50 values of 7.44 and 4.22 µM, respectively.
