- Abstract : This paper presents an original electroless nitration process of InP surface in liquid ammonia (-55°C). The caution addition of phosphorus pentachloride in liquid ammonia leads to the formation of polyphosphazene and ammonium chloride. Both products are identified by thermogravimetric analysis and X-ray photoelectron spectrometry. The chemical surface modifications of InP are closed to those observed by electrochemistry since it leads to a polyphosphazene like film formation on InP. Moreover, the chemical stability of the surface is also demonstrated by XPS analyses. The electroless process can be attractive to the industry since no electrical connection (potential and current) are applied at the interface.
