- Abstract : Electrical vehicles (EVs) have enjoyed extensive focus this decade as next-generation vehicles. However, high specific energy, high power density and low-cost batteries are essential for EVs to replace vehicles with internal combustion engines. Here, we propose a novel high specific energy and power density rechargeable aqueous lithium battery with an aqueous SnCl2 cathode and a lithium metal anode, where the lithium anode and the aqueous cathode are separated by a water-stable high lithium-ion conductivity solid electrolyte of Li1.4 Al0.4 Ge0.2 Ti1.4 (PO4 )3 . The theoretical specific energy density of this battery was 681 Wh kg −1, which is around 1.8 times higher than that of conventional lithium-ion batteries. The cell was successfully cycled at 1.5 mA cm −2 and 25°C for a specific areal capacity of 15 mAh cm −2 .
