- Abstract : Strong localized fields can significantly enhance the light–matter interaction at nanoscales. In article number 1700223, Qiaoqiang Gan and co‐workers experimentally squeeze 81% of the incident mid‐infrared radiation into a metamaterial absorber with sub‐5‐nm gaps fabricated using atomic layer deposition processes. The strong localized field supported in these nanogaps results in enhancement factors up to around 10 6 –10 7 for surface‐enhanced infrared absorption spectroscopy.
