- Highlights: A shale adsorption model under the effect of water and temperature was proposed. A new method for calculating the isosteric enthalpy was further established. Shale adsorption mechanism and thermodynamic characteristics were analyzed. The density of shale adsorption phase was further analyzed by comparison. Abstract: In this paper, we constructed a shale adsorption model that considered the combined effects of moisture and temperature, and validated its rationality with published experimental data. According to the model, we further analyzed the change law in wet shale adsorption amounts under the influence of temperature and pressure. In which the influence of temperature and moisture on the shale adsorption process appeared to present a combined negative effect. Secondly, based on a calculation relating to the amount of adsorption, we proposed a calculation method for the isosteric enthalpy of shale that considered the effects of moisture and temperature. Owing to the controlled effect of temperature and moisture on shale's methane adsorption, the isosteric enthalpy of adsorption decreased with increasing temperature, and moisture content. In addition, a method for calculating the density of adsorption phase is also proposed to fit the isotherms under different temperature and water content conditions in this paper.
