- Abstract: A 1, 2, 3-triazole based ligand(L) was synthesized and investigated for its sensing abilities. The structure of the receptor L was determined by FT-IR, 1 H NMR and 13 C NMR spectroscopic techniques. The receptor L was constructed in such a way that the 1, 2, 3-triazole unit was acting as the binding part for the metal ion. It was found to sense exclusive Cu 2+ at pH 7.0. the electronic spectroscopic study confirmed the formation of complex between Cu 2+ and nitrogen of 1, 2, 3-triazole unit and it was highly selective even in presence of other metals like Ca 2+, Cd 2+, Hg 2+, Mg 2+, Mn 2+, Ni 2+, Co 2+, Fe 2+, Zn 2+ and anions like F −, AcO −, Cl −, Br −, I −, SCN − . Fluorescence studies of the receptor reveal the formation of binding with copper and quench the emission of the parent ligand.
