Abstract

Abstract : (Abstracted from N Engl J Med 2020;383:49–57) Preterm birth, defined as birth ⩽36 weeks' gestational age (GA), is the main cause of neonatal death, although numerous other factors can affect this risk. For example, studies have shown that very preterm infants (infants born at ⩽31 weeks' gestation) have a lower risk of neonatal death if they have a normal birth weight, are female, receive antenatal corticosteroids, and have a high 5-minute Apgar score.
