- Abstract: A novel and simple model for determining the temperature-dependent hardness of ceramics based on the concept that the maximum energy storage limit of a ceramic is associated with the material yielding under indentation is developed in this study. This model characterizes the temperature-dependent hardness for the first time by using only the Young's modulus and the melting point of the material without the need for fitting parameters. Good agreement between the predicted results and experimental measurements is achieved for numerous ceramic materials. This model can serve as the starting point for evaluating the temperature dependence of the hardness of ceramic materials.
