Abstract

Abstract: Tests and numerical simulation were performed in order to disclose post-fire behaviour of square steel tube confined reinforced concrete columns under axial and eccentric loading. Twelve specimens were first exposed to the ISO 834 standard fire including both heating and cooling phases under an unstressed state. After that compression tests were conducted on these specimens. To further study the behaviour of this kind of column, a nonlinear finite element model was developed and was validated using tests results in this study and in literature. Influences of key parameters on load-carrying capacity were determined by performing parametric studies, which includes heating time, slenderness ratio, load eccentricity, area ratio of steel tube to concrete, reinforcement ratio and material strengths. A simplified method was recommended to calculate the load-carrying capacity of this kind of column after standard fire exposure. Highlights: Test results of 12 square STCRC beam-columns after fire exposure were analysed. A nonlinear finite element model was developed and adopted for parametric studies. A simplified method was proposed for evaluating load-bearing capacity of square STCRC beam-columns after fire exposure.
