- Highlights: Effect of single tensile overload on SLM Inconel 625 FCG was investigated. The scatter influence of orientation was discussed. The modified model predictions showed good agreements with the experimental results. The plasticity induced FCG retardation of SLM Inconel 625. Abstract: The effect of single peak overload on the crack propagation of selective laser melting Inconel 625 superalloy was investigated in this study. Irwin model and Shih model were used to calculate the plastic zone size. And Irwin model was in good agreement with experimental results. A model considering two plastic zone size weight was proposed. By comparison with the calculated results of theoretical models and microscopic analyses, it was demonstrated that the plastic zone size at the crack tip is the main reason for single tensile overload-induced crack retardation of selective laser melting Inconel 625.
