- Abstract : The choice of electrode material determines the synthetic outcome of electrochemical transformation of styrenes with molecular oxygen. As K. Chiba and co‐workers report in their Communication on page 125 ff., platinum electrodes provide selective access to carbonyl compounds through olefin cleavage (samurai cleaves olefin with a platinum sword), while carbon electrodes facilitate the dimerization of styrenes to form tetrahydrofuran derivatives (archer shoots the second styrene with a carbon bow).
