- Abstract: The highly efficient self-similar spectral compression of pre-chirped hyperbolic secant pulses is numerically demonstrated in the nonlinear fibre with the exponentially increasing dispersion. It is found that by implementing a pre-chirping process on chirp-free pulses before spectral compression, the spectral compression factor (SCF) and the brightness enhancement factor (BEF) can be significantly improved. In a 0.8 km long nonlinear fibre with the exponentially increasing dispersion, SCF and BEF can reach 16.12 and 13.17, respectively, which are 40.31% and 6.05% higher than those of chirp-free pulses. Additionally, the proposed technique is superior in terms of SCF, BEF, and pulse quality than spectral compression in the linearly increasing dispersion profile. Further comparison is provided between simulation results of the generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equation and the pulse parameter equations.
