Abstract

Abstract: Dr. Dan Hicks retired as Clinical Professor of Psychiatry from Medstar Georgetown University Medical Center Department of Psychiatry in 2016. He had previously taught medical students, residents, and fellows, and chaired the Grand Rounds committee. He was Medical Director of the Partial Hospital Program and, prior to that, the head of the Consultation Liaison section of the department. In his forty-year career, Dr. Hicks had worked inpatient, outpatient, partial hospital, and addictions. He is a Distinguished Life Fellow of the American Psychiatric Association, and Fellow of the Academy of Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry. He is a Past President of AGLP (1997–99). He received the James Paulsen award for service to AGLP in 2006. Dr. Hicks graduated from Indiana University Medical School and did his psychiatric residency there. He worked in community mental health at Gallahue Mental Health Center in Indianapolis, then in Consultation Liaison Psychiatry at Indiana University. Due to his experience in working with HIV, he moved to Washington, DC in 1989 to work with the HIV program at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He later became Medical Director of the Lambda Center, an LGBT treatment program in Washington DC before going to Georgetown in 2000.
