- Abstract: Plasma materials offer major advantages over normal materials: plasma can be rapidly built and destroyed in millisecond to microsecond time scales, permit a fast changing of the electrical power and incident frequency with controlled characteristics. We present that plasma antenna can focus and enhance electromagnetic energy. The electromagnetic energy density of focus spot can reach several hundred times larger than that of the incident wave. We have designed two kinds of plasma arrays and found that plasma arrays are far superior to single antennas and have better energy enhancement. The near-field enhancement may provide a new means to focus power onto devices with high efficiency. This research opens up the possibilities for highly effective coupling power into receivers or focusing power into the specified location by plasma antenna. Image 1 Highlights: Plasma antennas can be designed to focus electromagnetic field and enhance the energy density in the near field. Two kinds of plasma antenna array are designed, and the energy enhancement has been great improved.
