- ABSTRACT: In this study, MoS2 particle and ultrasonic field (UF) were successfully employed to produce Ni–Mo–P, Ni–Mo–P/MoS2 and UF–Ni–Mo–P/MoS2 electroless composite coatings on Q235 mild steel. The surface microscopic, microstructures and roughness of the coating were studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy dispersive spectrometer (EDS), atomic force microscope (AFM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). The corrosion resistance was analysed by Tafel plots and by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). The results indicated that compared to a pure Ni–Mo–P coating, the UF–Ni–Mo–P/MoS2 composite coating exhibited better corrosion resistance. The friction tests showed that MoS2 particle enhanced the wear resistance of the composite coating. The potential mechanism was that ultrasonic field suppressed the hydrogen gas occlusion and brought about a uniform and dense surface.
