Abstract

Abstract : This study explored work-life experiences and social support as correlates of mental health among security personnel for internally displaced persons' (IDP) camps in Nigeria. The security personnel ( n = 500; male = 62.2% and females = 37.8%; age range = 25 to 55) completed measures of job satisfaction, occupational stress, and social support. Findings following regression analysis indicated low job satisfaction and high occupational stress to predict high levels of mental health distress among the participants. Social support did not differentiate among security personnel in their mental health well-being. Findings are likely explained by the fact that proximal work-life conditions impress more on mental health well-being than distal general social support factors.
