- Abstract: The purpose of this research is to reduce the amount of waste material in the form of blast furnace slag and discarded glass produced and effectively utilize it while preventing the exhaustion of natural resources and reducing the amount disposed of in final landfill sites. Therefore a powdered silica admixture made through heat treatment of inorganic waste material including silica components such as discarded glass and fly ash as well as an alkali aid has been focused. It seems that using silica admixture mixed with blast furnace powder would be effective, and the mixed solidification material with silica admixture and ground granulated blast furnace slag a high manifestation of strength and superiority in various characteristics compared to cement solidification material is expected. However the hardening mechanism of powdered silica admixture remains unclear. In this paper the hardening mechanism and special characteristics of mixed solidification materials mechanically, chemically, and minerally are investigated via indoor mixing tests, X-Ray diffraction analysis, and high-frequency inductively coupled plasma analysis. The results of the indoor mixing test showed clearly that the mixed solidification material had superior liquidity of improvement base, hardening delay performance, and strength characteristics.
