Abstract

Abstract: Plastic waste has widely spread to almost every corner of the blue planet, imposing serious problems to the living organisms and the environment. Traditional plastics are derived from fossil feedstock and are difficult to degrade. To mitigate the carbon footprint and the impact on environment, renewable plastics that are both biobased and biodegradable are the future directions for the sustainable development of the plastic industries. In this mini-review, the current status, including the major commercial renewable plastics and the new generation of renewable plastics from ocean waste, will be briefly narrated.
