- Abstract: Composites are increasingly sought materials due to their superior durability properties. Their heterogeneous nature, which gives them the advantage over traditional materials, also poses a major challenge in the estimation of their aggregate material properties. The micromechanical analysis is defined as the study of composite materials at fiber and matrix level. Micromechanics allows to predicting multi-axial properties of materials that are often difficult to measure experimentally. This study is carried out with propose of determination of the overall behavior of various types of composite materials from the known material properties of fiber and matrix phases. The capability of these methods are providing the response of elastic, thermoelastic, viscoelastic, and viscoplastic composites, as well as their initial yield surfaces, strength envelopes, and fatigue failure curves analysis can be done by the help of micromechanical models. In this paper two micromechanical methods for the analysis of composites such mechanics of materials approach and Mori Tanaka method are discussed.
