- Abstract: Various engineering applications make use of additive manufacturing technologies, of which fuse deposition modelling (FDM) remains to be the most popular one. It is very important to identify of the FDM process parameters which significantly influence the quality of the FDM processed parts. During the present decade many researches have made exploration of many ways for the improvement of mechanical properties and part quality by the use of many experimental design techniques and ideas. The objective of the present article is to assess research works done upto the time to determine and optimize the process parameters for surface roughness followed in the FDM process. Examination of statistical design of experiment (DOE) and optimization technique to determine the optimum process parameter have been made.
