- Abstract: In this experimental work the influence of fiber orientation on the mechanical properties of woven GFRP is presented. 6-ply laminates of four fiber orientation (0 0 /90 0 ), ±15 0, ± 30 0, ±45 0 were fabricated by hand layup assisted by press molding technique and tested for their tensile, compression and 3-point bend behaviour. The laminates presented properties based on fiber orientations. Different loading conditions imparted different fracture behaviour in the materials. (0 0 /90 0 ) laminates had the highest of the properties in terms of strength while the lowest in terms of elongation/deflection and vice-versa properties were depicted by laminates with ±45 0 orientation. A constitutive damage model comprising two-parameter Weibull distribution function was used to evaluate scattering in the results and it was observed that (0 0 /90 0 ) laminates had the highest scale parameter (α) or nominal strength and the maximum shape parameter (.) or scattering in the properties. It was also observed that on an increase in the fiber orientation angle deteriorated both Weibull parameters.
