Abstract

Graphical abstract: Eugejambones A―D together with 17 known compounds were isolated from leaves of Eugenia jambos and their cytotoxic and antibacterial activities were reported. Highlights: Leaves of Eugenia jambos were investigated. Four new unsaturated ketones were isolated and identified. The cytotoxic and antibacterial activities of four unsaturated ketones were evaluated, but all were inactive. Three chalcones, one flavonoid and one dimeric unsaturated ketone showed cytotoxic activity. Abstract: A new octenone, eugejambone A, a new propenone, eugejambone B and two new heptadienone derivatives, eugejambones C and D, along with 17 known compounds were isolated from leaves of Eugenia jambos . Their structures were determined by 1D and 2D NMR spectroscopic data. The cytotoxic and antibacterial activities of the isolated compounds were evaluated.
