- Abstract: The λ -N2, a low-temperature, high-pressure (LTHP) molecular solid nitrogen, exhibits an exceptionally wide range of P - T stability. In this letter, six separate P - T paths are used to probe the formation condition and phase stability of the λ -N2, and the phase stability boundary has been reevaluated based on our Raman observations. The vibrational modes for λ -N2 have been studied by analyzing the local molecular properties, and a sudden broadening and turnover of vibron in Raman spectra at about 54 GPa has been observed. Highlights: The phase stability boundary for λ -N2 has been revised based on our Raman observations via six separate P - T paths. The vibrational modes for λ-N2 have been studied by analyzing the local molecular properties. We observed a sudden broadening and turnover of vibron in Raman spectra at about 54 GPa, which may indicate an isostructural phase transition.
