Graphical abstract: Highlights: A one-pot protocol for the preparation of ( E )-3-benzylideneflavanones. Moderate to good yields of the products. Experimentally simple procedure working under air. Simple starting materials. Abstract: An efficient and practical PPA/H2 SO4 promoted synthesis of ( E )-3-benzylideneflavanones from 2-hydroxyacetophenones and aromatic aldehydes was developed. Various ( E )-3-benzylideneflavanones were produced in good to excellent yields.
