- Abstract: In this paper, a particle refinement scheme with a hybrid particle interacting technique for SPH is proposed. The axis-aligned square refinement pattern is adopted to split coarse particles into fine ones and produces a new kind of particle named as "representative particles". Representative particles have the same masses and initial particle spacings as the fine ones and are used to represent coarse particles to interact with fine ones. With this treatment, interpolation errors from direct interactions of coarse and fine particles can be avoided. Numerical tests have demonstrated that the proposed particle refinement scheme is accurate and stable, and provides an effective approach to improve the simulation resolution of SPH with limited computational cost.
