Abstract

Abstract: Invited for this month's cover picture is the group of Dr. Jan Tkac (head of the Department of Glycobiotechnology at the Institute of Chemistry at the Slovak Academy of Sciences, Slovakia). The cover picture shows a common eukaryotic cell with basic organelles, as well as intracellular formation/preparation of exosomes for express delivery to distant tissues. Abstract : "A common insight into a eukaryotic cell: Well‐protected strands of DNA are used to create protein‐based products and globular proteins, which are a subject to post‐translational modification in Golgi (e.g. glycosylation). Mitochondria are providing enough energy for the whole "factory", while lysosomes remove junk from the cell. One of the common activities of the cell is to release small "packages"—exosomes (containing different substances hidden inside) to other, remote cells."
