Abstract

Abstract : A counterintuitive ligand design to induce a spin‐crossover in otherwise high‐spin complexes was devised for 2, 6‐bis(pyrazol‐3‐yl)pyridines by choosing bulky substituents, the ortho‐functionalized phenyl groups. The tribute to a Russian avant‐garde artist Kazimir Malevich in the artwork shows it as a traditional 'tool' to set the right balance between the shape and the size of these substituents to move towards a truly molecular design of spin‐crossover compounds for future breakthrough applications.
