- Abstract: Zr65 Cu25 Ni5 Ag2.5 Al2.5 glassy powder was produced by mechanical alloying of elemental powder mixtures. Thermal stability was investigated by differential scanning calorimetry in isochronal mode, whereas crystallization kinetics was investigated in isothermal mode. The activation energy for the crystallization event was found to be approximately 322 kJ/mol. In addition, JMA analysis shows the transformation is a diffusion‐controlled three‐dimensional process, and the crystallization event proceeds with increasing nucleation rate for annealing temperatures at and above 703 K, while it proceeds with decreasing nucleation rate at temperatures below 703 K. Growth kinetics show that volume diffusion is the dominant mechanism at 700 K. For temperatures above 700 K, the growth mechanism is stochastic jumping of atoms across the grain boundaries. The activation energy for the growth process is approximately 305 kJ/mol.
