- Abstract : Basic phosphates are activated by ketones and aldehydes . The activated phosphates either form polyphosphoranes or phosphorylate polyols to form pentacoordinated polyol phosphoranes. The unstable polyol phosphoranes and polyphosphoranes are stabilized by reductive dehydration to the corresponding phosphates. The cover image shows an activated match used to light a candle with the unstable open flame being protected by a hand. More information can be found in the communication by B.
