- Abstract : Lactate is an end product of glucose metabolism, which serves metabolic and nonmetabolic functions. A new study by Zhang et al. establishes a novel function for lactate whereby it is utilized in a new histone modification, histone lysine lactylation, to regulate gene expression in macrophages.
