Abstract

Abstract: It's like bringing owls to Athens when writing here, in our famous IABSE Journal, about design, analysis, erection and maintenance of suspension bridges. It's all known to its readers. And yet it's done, in order to shed light on the achievements of Toni Rüttimann, who together with his right-hand men and the villagers in need has built over 800 footbridges within the last 31 years in 13 countries of Latin America and Southeast Asia. And still bridge building goes on, currently in Myanmar, Indonesia and Ecuador with 40–50 bridges being built per year.
