- Highlights: Porous ceramic waste aggregate (PCWA) was tested as an internal curing agent. Effect of PCWA on steam-cured fly ash concrete was investigated. PCWA improved the compressive strength, especially for 40% fly ash concrete. PCWA improved the carbonation resistance, especially for 40% fly ash concrete. PCWA enhanced cement hydration as well as fly ash reaction in steam-cured concrete. Abstract: This study aims to investigate the effects of porous ceramic waste coarse aggregate (PCWA), which was used as an internal curing agent, on the compressive strength, shrinkage, and carbonation resistance of steam-cured concrete using fly ash (FA) at the replacement ratios of 0%, 20%, and 40% by mass. The PCWA replacement ratios amounted to 0%, 10%, and 20% of the coarse aggregate volume. The results showed that the PCWA significantly improved compressive strength and carbonation resistance of concrete using 40% FA, whereas it could increase the drying shrinkage of the steam-cured concrete using 40% FA.
