- Abstract: Background: A 73‐year‐old female presented with leg claudication and chest pain. A mobile mass in the ascending aorta was found. Results: The mass was removed through a transverse aortotomy on circulatory arrest via sternotomy. Conclusion: Free‐floating ascending aortic thrombus is a rare source of peripheral embolization. We advocate for emergent surgical resection to prevent further embolization and stroke.
