- Abstract: This paper presents a new bio-inspired grinding head based on the natural friction pair of bovine molars. According to the morphology analysis and chewing simulation, the infundibulum dentis and dental star were selected as biological coupling elements, and their characteristic parameters were extracted, characterized and optimized for surface structure design of the grinding head. Compared to the commercial grinding head, the bio-inspired grinding head has higher crushing efficiency verified by the experiments on grinding the same food products. Highlights: A new bionic grinding head based on the natural friction pair of bovine molars is presented. The contribution of bovine infundibulum dentis to mastication function is revealed. The bionic grinding head enables higher reduction ratios and lower working temperatures.
