- Summary: We report the anaesthetic management of a woman who presented at term with a suspected phaeochromocytoma necessitating urgent Caesarean section. Subsequent histological diagnosis confirmed diffuse adrenal medullary hyperplasia. There is little evidence or consensus regarding the optimal anaesthetic technique for caesarean section in patients with raised catecholamines. Both general [1, 2] and regional [3, 4] anaesthetic techniques have been described. We consider the benefits and drawbacks of both.
